Company recalls spill-proof cups due to risk of mold

Millions of spill-proof cups for toddlers have been recalled nationwide because of a mold risk that could lead to sickness. To date, 3,066 reports of mold have been made to the manufacturer, Mayborn USA, and 68 children have suffered from symptoms including diarrhea and vomiting after drinking from the cups.

Millions of Tommee Tippee Sippy cups have been recalled in the USA after mould that formed in the valves was blamed for making children ill. The company has received more than 3,000 reports of mould.

The cups have a one-piece, opaque, removable valve in which mold can build up.

Pictures of mouldy cups were already shared on social media earlier this year. Ingesting mold can lead to gastrointestinal discomfort or infections for those who have compromised immune systems.

Five types of spill proof cups are being recalled – all with a removable one-piece white valve.

Information call toll-free at 877-248-6922 anytime during the week and from 8 a.m.to 3 p.m. ET Saturday. The company will replace the cups for free.
