Computers of Democrats’ House campaign committee are hacked

Reuters reports that the FBI is investigating a breach of the systems of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

But the latest breach of the DCCC bears similarities to the hack on the DNC, which resulted in the leak of damning emails ahead of the party’s convention in Philadelphia this week, sources told Reuters and Fox News. “The FBI takes seriously any allegations of intrusions, and we will continue to hold accountable those who pose a threat in cyberspace”, the agency said.

The DCCC was working to enhance its network security and “cooperating with the federal law enforcement with respect to their ongoing investigation”, she said.

The DCCC is the campaign arm for House Democrats.

But Reuters managed to ask Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov about any Russian involvement.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee confirmed Friday that it has been the latest subject of a cyber attack, further raising suspicions and stoking fears that Russian Federation may be coordinating attacks to influence US elections. One email mentions PoliMedia, though that was only in a round-up of news stories published on this website. That hack led to the release of some 20,000 emails by WikiLeaks, many of them embarrassing to Democratic officials, and the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Florida congresswoman who led the group.

“I have concerns that an agency of foreign intelligence is hacking and interfering with a USA election”, said Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, who added he had not seen news of the DCCC attack.

That was when a bogus website was registered with a name closely resembling that of a main donation site connected to the DCCC.

President Barack Obama has said Russian Federation was nearly certainly responsible for the DNC hack, an assertion with which cybersecurity experts have agreed.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign was hacked as part of what appears to be a broad cyber attack on Democratic political organizations running up to the presidential election, the Clinton campaign confirmed Friday. But the attack’s timing-or at least the registration of the domain used in the attack-matches up with the recent discovery of a Democratic National Committee breach.

Several major Democratic donors contacted by Reuters on Friday said they had not been notified of the hack and were not concerned about their information being accessed.

This week, Trump encouraged Russian Federation to seek and release more than 30,000 other missing emails deleted by Clinton, the former secretary of state.
