That’s why there has been a great efforts made to erase the distinction between whether something was “marked” classified or not, on the logic that most everything a secretary of state says is, by definition, sensitive enough to be classified.

The State Department said the messages were “top secret” and could not be released. CBS News reports there were 37 pages of emails sent, however, they were not labeled as “classified” when they were sent to Clinton.

It comes three days before she competes in the Iowa presidential caucuses – the first time the public will cast their votes in the run-up to November’s election. Marco Rubio told more than 300 people Saturday morning in Sioux City, Iowa. “Obviously that’s not @HillaryClinton”.

Clinton’s chief Democratic rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Iowa. Because of how recklessly Clinton and her top aides handled classified information, the IC must operate under the assumption that there are copies of these 22 emails floating around – whether in the possession of current or former government officials but unaccounted for or, worse, in the possession of, say, foreign governments that managed to hack into Clinton’s unsecured private system.

The officials weren’t authorized to speak on the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Separately, Kirby said the department withheld eight email chains, totaling 18 messages, between Obama and Clinton. These are remaining confidential “to protect the president’s ability to receive unvarnished advice and counsel”, but will ultimately be released like other presidential records.

In a separate interview on “This Week”, Sanders declined to attack Clinton over her email use, though he did say she was “getting slapped” by the controversy.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest downplayed questions about whether Clinton might be prosecuted by the Justice Department. “Of course, she’s never going to be president”. When asked if she believed the release of her emails was political posturing by Republicans, as Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Sen. They’ve backtracked from the archiving claim, while the AP discovered several phishing attempts on her server connected to Russian Federation.
