But Grealish has chosen England as he feels that they offer him the best chance to play at major global competitions.

Grealish, the Aston Villa attacker, has made himself available for Roy Hodgson’s senior team in a move which is certain to infuriate Martin O’Neill, the Republic of Ireland manager.

There’s been some speculation that he’ll be named in the squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania, with the players due to be named on Thursday.

Hodgson is set to run the rule over a handful of worldwide rookies with qualification for next summer’s tournament in France already secured.

“I have chose to give my allegiance to England”, he tweeted.

The Birmingham born midfielder has previously represented Ireland at every single underage level but he has now chose to do a U-turn and wear the England jersey over the green one.

In a statement released today on his twitter feed, the young midfielder said it wasn’t an “easy choice”. He’s not a shop window job, he’s our player, and we couldn’t put a price on him.

Grealish made his professional debut while on loan at Notts County against MK Dons in September 2013.

He has since played 21 league games for the claret and blues, scoring his first goal this month in a 3-2 defeat at Leicester.
