Curfew and separatist shutdown began in the valley on July 9, a day after Hizbul commander, Burhan Wani, was killed in a gunfight with the security forces.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Tuesday for an end to the violence in Kashmir, promising jobs for young people, in his first comments since deadly clashes began over a month ago.

“We want peace in Kashmir… and people of Kashmir have repeatedly defeated powers that have tried to disrupt peace”. Freedom experienced by every Indian is also for every Kashmiri.

Claiming that all parties have to sit together and find a solution to the problems in Jammu and Kashmir, Azad said the state government can not alone resolve the law and order situation in the state. “Indians love Kashmir but there are some elements who are hurting the great tradition of “Kashmiriyat”,” Modi said.

Alluding to the voices favouring “azadi” (freedom) for the state, Modi said the people of Jammu and Kashmir had the same freedom as people do everywhere in India.

“When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister he had adopted the path of insaniyat, jamhuriyat and Kashmiriyat and we walk the same road”.

Modi is slated to visit the birth place of revolutionary leader Chandrashekhar Azad at Bhabhra village, and will address a public meeting at Jothrada village near there where he will launch “70 saal Azaadi, Yaad karo Qurbani” campaign, according to The Times of India. “It is Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh that make the state”, Manhas said as the upper house discussed the situation amid a bloody unrest in the valley.

PM Modi yesterday reached out to the people of Kashmir and indicated willingness to hold dialogue under the framework of “insaniyat (humanity), jamhuriyat (democracy) and Kashmiriyat”.

“While we welcome the statement of the Prime Minister on Kashmir today, it should have come much earlier”, the spokesman said.

Pointing out that there is a difference between communalism and separatism, Azad said the militants do not have any religion, be they from Punjab or Kashmir.

On this Azad said that the words of Vajpayee do not suit Prime Minister Modi.

“Situation in Kashmir has worsened after you have come to power”, said Azad while targeting the BJP.

“The Prime Minister has broken his silence over the Kashmir issue and that too outside Parliament. We want the same bright future for every youth in Kashmir”.

“Peace, unity and harmony in Kashmir is everyone’s priority, ‘ Modi said in a speech broadcast on national television, blaming ‘a few misguided people” for the violence. We want development for J&K. “We are ready. I will ask the Chief Minister where to start the process and with whom to talk, on which issues”, he added.
