Congress Dubs President’s Rule in Arunachal as ‘Murder of Democracy’

The Congress has opposed the Centre’s move and had made a representation to the President accusing the governor of creating a crisis in the state at the behest of the BJP.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal compared the imposition of President’s rule to an Emergency-like condition. If they (Congress) can’t understand this simple fact and are trying to politicise this issue, then there is no solution to that. Decision taken by the government is unconstitutional…We will approach the Supreme Court about the decision. “The matter is sub judice and yet the speed with which the cabinet moved and the final decision has been taken is a clear indication that they have no respect for the highest court of the land”, said Congress spokesperson Tom Vadakkan.

The ruling Congress government headed by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki will cease to exist. Mukherjee approved the Union Cabinet’s recommendation following political instability in the state, according to the report. “Prez rule in Arunachal Advaniji was right in saying that there are Emergency-like conditions in the country”, he tweeted. “We will fight it legally…The highest judiciary of the country will give justice to the state, justice to the party and alsio will protect the Constitution”, he said.

If the Supreme Court rules the session invalid, it would amount to a constitutional breakdown because the assembly has breached Article 174 of the Constitution – mandating that the gap between two sessions of the assembly should not exceed six months.

Crisis erupted in Arunachal Pradesh on December 16 after 21 rebel Congress lawmakers joined hands with 11 BJP and two independent members to “impeach” Speaker Nabam Rebia at a makeshift venue.

Congress today came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of imposition of President’s rule in party-ruled Arunachal Pradesh declaring that it would the decision “fight tooth and nail”.

The move was termed as illegal and unconstitutional by the Speaker.

The Supreme Court has referred a batch of petitions on the Arunachal Pradesh crisis to a Constitution Bench.
