RANCHI: Congress on Monday stepped up its attack on Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over Vyapam scam, saying that Chouhan should be sacked because an impartial probe into the scam cannot be carried out as long as he continues to be in the saddle. He further said that both Supreme Court and High Court had rejected the demand for CBI probe and the probe is presently being monitored by the High Court. “Any probe into it will essentially require that he is thoroughly interrogated and investigated”, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.

Organised rackets employed imposters, manipulated seating arrangements, and forged answer sheets as part of the Vyapam scam, named after PEB’s Hindi acronym.

This particular scam in Madhya Pradesh further got complicated on Monday with the third death of a Journalist. And now they are faced with the deaths of more witnesses and suspects. “I was the first to suggest a CBI probe”, she said.

On June 4, Akshay Singh, a television journalist covering the story in Madhya Pradesh, died mysteriously.

Shukla (44) had worked as Officer on Special Duty for the jailed ex- state minister Laxmikant Mishra who is also a prime accused in the scam.

Announcing a CBI probe would be the simplest way for the embattled BJP to salvage its credibility and signal that it is serious about solving the Vyapam mystery.

He was responding to a question on the demand of the opposition that Prime Minister Modi should speak out on the matter.

The Vyapam scam was exposed in 2009 by Indore-based doctor and activist Dr Anand Rai who filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

However, BJP vice president and in-charge of MP affairs, Vinay Saharsbuddhe, said the party “had never been stubborn on the issue of agency for the probe”.
