After completing a seven kilometer “communal harmony” walk in Assam’s minority-dominated Barpeta district on Saturday, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a champion of disharmony and a person of false promises. “Your hollow promises, your lies we accepted once, but we are alert people, we will not be influenced by you for the second time”. Assembly poll will be held in the state next year.

“About 15 years back there was unrest in Assam”.
In a statement Gogoi said the report brought out by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Government of India ranked Assam in the sixth position in GSDP. “Modi has stopped fund flow to Assam, discontinued the special category status which Assam enjoyed”. People can not get jobs and progress can not take place. “I want to tell my party workers that we should be united and fight BJP”.
“Tarun Gogoi has linked 30 lakh women with bank accounts, put money in their pockets”.
Gogoi said that the slew of economic measures adopted by the State Government through fiscal discipline and management has enabled the State to compete with other developed States.
Gandhi also interacted with a group of women entrepreneurs of the state and addressed his party leaders. “And then Modi came and attempts are being made to finish MGNREGA, the land acquisition Bill that we amended”, alleged Rahul. “He will return home like the way people of Bihar sent him back”, Rahul said. He added, “Congress will have to win”.

He said the decision on any poll tie-up would be taken by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Assam PCC chief Anjan Dutta and added, “The CM and Anjan Dutta are in charge here”.
