Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be the choice of Narendra Modi to lead BJP’s campaign for the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Listing various incidents of malpractice and corruption which the Government came across while initiating measures like direct benefit transfers through Aadhar cards and bank accounts, the PM said he will strive harder in the coming three years to wipe out corruption.

On rural electrification, Modi said two years ago, 18,000 villages didn’t have electricity and he had given his government a period of 1,000 days to deliver.

Announcing that the retirement age of doctors employed by the government would be raised to 65 years, he said: “There is a shortage of doctors. We will continue to work for the people of the country and seek their blessing”, he said. India and Switzerland are working “very closely” on sharing of information related to tax matters on suspected illicit money cases, a top Swiss official had said earlier.
