Congressmen Bob Goodlatte and Robert Hurt comment on WDBJ-TV killings

WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and photographer Adam Ward were killed after a man police described as a disgruntled former co-worker murdered them on live television. Our Carilion Clinic family had gotten to know Alison and Adam well in recent years, spending many early mornings with them during live TV reports from our facilities throughout the region.

On Thursday, her husband Tim appeared on the Today show to talk about the horrifying attack and give an update on her condition.

‘I immediately tried to call her on her cellphone and there was no response, ‘ Mr Gardner recalled. “It is obvious that this gentleman was disturbed in some way, the way things had transpired at some point in his life”, Overton said.

The shooting occurred when Gardner – the executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce – was being interviewed in a live broadcast at Bridgewater Plaza near Moneta. Salinas said the station provided security for station employees for an unknown time after the incident. He says she told her that “she remembers everything that happened”. Gardner is also a member of the hospital’s board of directors and is “a close friend” of the institution, he said in a statement.

Gardner has been working at the chamber since 2002, according to her LinkedIn page. “We just celebrated her 24th birthday”. “We will stand strong with her through this”, Keaton said. “Just not the same guy we all knew”.
