Congresswoman Joins Purple Heart Veterans Blasting Trump for ‘Repugnant’ Comments

And, as though the entire ordeal wasn’t unusual enough, later Tuesday, NBC’s Katy Tur tweeted that the veteran who gave Trump the medal told her it was only a duplicate of the medal, not a real Purple Heart.
Oh, and despite the man telling Trump that the Purple Heart was real, the guy told a reporter earlier that the one he gave him was a replica.
Trump has been embroiled in a controversy with the parents of slain Army Capt. Humayun Khan for appearing to compare his success in business with their sacrifice of losing their child.
Another of Trump’s light-hearted remarks at the Virginia event also produced double-takes.
Barney, a Democratic congressional candidate from DE, blasted Trump for his “flippant and repugnant” comments.
In an interview with ABC7 on Tuesday, Trump said, “I don’t regret anything”.
“Our veterans are being treated horribly”, Trump said Tuesday. “If he would have been sensible he would have known what it takes to earn that Purple Heart”.
IL congresswoman Tammy Duckworth posted a photo on Twitter of her with her Purple Heart, with a message directed at Donald Trump. His comments, though, showed that his understanding of the Purple Heart was about as good as his understanding of worldwide affairs.

At a rally in Ashburn, Va., today the GOP nominee said he was given a Purple Heart medal by a veteran backstage. This comes as Trump faces criticisms from the Khans and other gold star families, both due to his recent antics, and due to Trump having never served in combat after dodging the Vietnam War draft. Trump, citing his business record, also said he believes he has “made a lot of sacrifices”.
