Kyle Navin was arraigned on double murder charges at Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday. She was charged with conspiring to kill Navin’s parents and hindering prosecution.
Navin had been in federal prison since September on weapons charges, stemming from a search of his Bridgeport home during the investigation into his parents’ disappearance, officials said. Their remains were found last week outside a vacant house in neighboring Weston.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Valiante’s attorney, Elliot Warren, said his client has “spoken with police and maintains her innocence”.
State police public information officer Kelly Grant explains findings in the search of 89 Norfield Road. At a few point, we think that is going to change. Navin wrote that the plan would “solve every single problem and give us a wealthy wonderful life”.
Police said Kyle and his 31-year-old girlfriend, Jennifer Valiante, talked in text messages about killing his parents and getting their money.
They planned to sell their company and cut their son out of their will, leaving him on his own financially, investigators said.
The warrant says they were in the process of selling the business, where Kyle Navin had worked, and quoted Jeanette Navin as telling a friend they planned to cut Kyle out of the will because of his drug abuse.
“The month before his parents disappeared, Kyle texted Valiante saying he had the “perfect plan” to get “$ for life”, according to the warrant.
The missing couple’s 2003 Dodge pickup had a bullet hole and traces of blood in it when it was found on August 9 near a waste disposal business owned by Jeffrey Navin, prosecutors said. The alleged abuse was investigated by state child welfare authorities, the affidavit said.
Jeffrey and Jeanette disappeared on August 4.
The exchange between the two continued, as Kyle Navin denied doing anything wrong, according to the affidavit.
Jeffrey Navin sent one message to his son asking, “did you hurt mom?” according to the affidavit.
Kyle to Jeffrey (12:43 p.m.): No absolutely not.
Investigators discovered text messages between Kyle Navin and Jeffrey Navin that suggested Jeffrey Navin was anxious about being framed for murder.
