Connor Cook’s draft slide finally ends in 4th round

Though Oakland had a strong offensive line in 2015, the notion behind the Raiders getting Cook at No. 100 gives them a solid backup and a potential trade piece in a few years should Cook be ready to start for an National Football League team. “The other part too is with both A.J. McCarron and Connor Cook, there’s not one special, unique, elite trait”. Oakland gave up a fourth-round pick (No. 114) and a fifth-rounder (No. 154) to Cleveland in order to move up 14 spots for Cook.

While the fourth round is fairly early for a backup quarterback, especially for a team with a starter as young as Derek Carr, Cook is not in the QB1 conversation at all in Oakland.

“It’s a lot of motivation”, Cook said. “And when I get my shot, I’m going to show them”.

The Oakland Raiders were one of the franchises that bought into the idea, and proceeded to trade up in order to land the quarterback.

“Derek’s our quarterback”, McKenzie said. An NFL-ready frame (6-foot-4, 217 pounds) and ability to fit the ball into tight spaces earned him additional attention. “They’re making him out to be a criminal”. The winningest QB in school history with a won-loss record of 34-5, Cook is the Spartans’ career record-holder in passing yards (9,194) and touchdown passes (71).

That’s not a bad strategy and it provides insurance in case Carr gets injured, but the Raiders could view Cook as a player they develop for a year or two before flipping to a quarterback-needy team for a second round pick. Matt McGloin received a second-round restricted free agent tender this offseason – he’ll be the Raiders’ highest paid quarterback – and could move on next season. “I think all that stuff was just so far from the truth”. Everything will work itself out. “If you want to go back and talk to any of my teammates and ask them if I was a great leader, they would say yes”. We were successful for a reason.

The Steelers took cornerback Artie Burns in the first round, safety Sean Davis in the second, defensive lineman Javon Hargrave in the third, linebacker Travis Feeney in the sixth and linebacker Tyler Matakevich in the seventh. He was selected behind less-heralded quarterbacks such as USC’s Cody Kessler and North Carolina State’s Jacoby Brissett.

“I was probably living through the entire thing, as well, watched the entire draft”, Dantonio said by way of mlive.com. “A little bit of a wait”. “He was just saying that he was looking forward to getting an opportunity to coach me, looking forward to me getting into those facilities and getting to know everyone, and just congratulating me on being a Raider”.
