Russian Federation claimed bronze at the ice hockey world championship with a rampant 7-2 win over the United States in Moscow on Sunday (May 22). Selanne passed the torch of greatness to two of the best 18 year old players in the free world.

Duchene put the puck in the empty Finnish net in the final second of the game.

In Saturday’s semi-final, Brendan Gallagher, Brad Marchand, Derick Brassard and Ryan Ellis scored one apiece, while goaltender Cam Talbot produced 30 saves to set up a hard-fought win for Canada. “We saw the puck go in, the clock was running down, and we just down to the ice”. Tanev played a big role, with his best moment of the game coming after he broke his stick at one end and managed to intercept a pass and block a shot in his own end of the ice without a stick.

The Canadians registered the first seven shots of the game and made adjustments based on what they’d seen from Finland in the preliminary round. “It’s tough to say why, but they deserved to win tonight”.

Russian Federation out-shot Finland 13-2 in the third period, forcing Finland into a defensive shell, but couldn’t get the puck past Mikko Koskanen, with Pavel Datsyuk fanning on one golden opportunity at the back door.

Russia’s hopes of a first home triumph since the Soviet Union won in 1986 were dashed by their 3-1 reverse to the Finns in the semifinals.

It’s Canada’s 26th World Championship gold and second in a row.

Mozyakin added a powerplay goal at 13:41 to give Russian Federation a comfortable 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

In the bronze-medal game, Sergei Mozyakin scored twice for the hosts, while the impressive Artemi Panarin finished with a goal and two assists.

Larkin assisted on the first USA goal by Auston Matthews, who is projected to be the NHL’s first overall draft pick this summer.

“But we tried to make our supporters happy for a while with today’s win”.

“Before the game, I said ‘I have a feeling about you, ‘ ” Canadian forward Mark Scheifele said of McDavid. The gold medal game will take place at 1:45 p.m.
