Conor McGregor: I’ll fight at UFC 200

THE Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White had ruled out any possibility of Conor McGregor fighting on the UFC 200 card, despite the Irishman backtracking on his “retirement” and saying he was still training to face Nate Diaz.

McGregor later responded, via Twitter, writing: “Everyone flew in”.

“I am just trying to do my job and fight here”, he wrote.

“I came here to fight Conor”, Diaz said.

McGregor, who was in Iceland training for the event, had stoked rumours he was quitting the sport with a tweet that he had made a decision to retire young.

If Conor McGregor is to be believed, he’s back on the fight card for July’s big UFC 200 event.

At a press conference in Las Vegas on Friday, UFC president Dana White was adamant that the Dubliner was no longer a part of the company’s plans for the show. I’d already done press conferences, interviews and shot the ads before RDA pulled out. “I’m not real interested in anyone else”. We gave Conor every opportunity in the world to get here.

“We’re spending $10 million on promotion for this fight and we can’t even shoot a commercial for the main event”. Conor’s a guy who has stepped up and fought big fights on short notice and I respect Conor very much as a fighter. “That’s what he wanted and I’m down for whatever”. “We’re going to figure that out”, said White.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Conor McGregor confirmed that he’s not yet retired and even explained why he chose to ignore the UFC’s press requirements.

On his Facebook page, McGregor said the promotional and media obligations had become a distraction.

According to “The Notorious One” himself, UFC brass has re-entered Conor McGregor back into the main event slot at UFC 200.

I am paid to fight. White said it is also possible that light heavyweight Jon Jones could meet Daniel Cormier on the card if Jones wins his fight Saturday against Ovince Saint Preux.
