Conor McGregor keeping options open after Nate Diaz triumph

The big question on everyone’s mind following Conor McGregor’s win over Nate Diaz at UFC 202 is what’s next for the Irish superstar. The UFC has already declared Conor would go back down to 145 and defend his featherweight title.

Speaking on White’s comments, McGregor said: “I don’t think they’ll do that”.

“I’ve got to sit down and see what piece of the pie they’re offering me now, and take it from there”.

‘He ran the whole fight. “I gave him number two the second day, so I’m ready to go again”.

‘He was scared to engage. “Everyone, from the media to the fighters, wrote me off for this one”.

McGregor’s supporters were mainly made up of J1 students who finished their summer adventures with a blow out trip to Las Vegas to see their homegrown hero come out on top once again. However, unlike their first meeting in March, which Diaz won via submission, McGregor emerged victorious this time with a narrow majority-decision win via 48-47, 47-47 and 48-47 scores. McGregor, though, has right-of-first-refusal for a bout against Aldo. Some might not be this sport, so we’ll see.

“I knew he would have success early”, Diaz said.

If he was anxious about the UFC’s threat to strip him of his featherweight title if he didn’t defend it, McGregor didn’t show it. Dana White also threatened that he will strip McGregor of the UFC featherweight title but the champ is not anxious. Aldo beat Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 in July to claim the interim title.

“These guys who are part of the circus, they’re getting paid a lot of money, so I want to be part of the circus for a little bit”.

These are exciting times in the UFC and we should be in for some big fights and interesting matchups down the stretch this year and into the opening quarter of 2017.

Conor McGregor celebrates his gruelling win over Nate Diaz at UFC 202 and revels in proving the doubters wrong.

“If they want to set it up as soon as possible then let’s do it, but I don’t hink it’s a good business move for (McGregor) to be taking any other fight”. Diaz was guaranteed a reported $2 million for Saturday’s fight.

It was established by UFC President Dana White that McGregor will be defending the featherweight title whatever the outcome of his match with Diaz was.

If the featherweight champ is going to have a fight before McGregor-Diaz III and he doesn’t want to face Aldo, he could challenge for the lightweight belt.
