Now, the sports world is waiting on what’s next for McGregor.

After singing Diaz’s praises, McGregor went right back to hype mode.

In the fifth round Diaz was turning up the pressure and knew he had McGregor in some danger as they fought on the fence.

“S*** is going to hit the fan”, he said before limping out of the press conference.

In the weeks leading up to their rematch, McGregor said that he believed his feud with Diaz would become a trilogy.

But what were the two saying to each other during the 25 minute fight?

But it might not happen right away.

To add to the drama, McGregor was resigned to crutches after the fight.

This makes it 1-1 for the pair, after Diaz beat McGregor in their first bout at UFC 196. What would that do to the division if the guy I KO’d in 13 seconds is the unified champion? UFC president Dana White has made it clear that McGregor must put his belt on the line against Aldo, or forfeit the title. “I gave him number two the second day, so I’m ready to go again”.

McGregor’s supporters were mainly made up of J1 students who finished their summer adventures with a blow out trip to Las Vegas to see their homegrown hero come out on top once again.

His devastating victory over Jose Aldo capped a 12-month buildup and was the culmination of “The Year of McGregor” in the UFC, launching him to a new level of stardom and positioning him to take aim at greater challenges.

There will be those who saw the fight in favour of Diaz, but regardless, it’s hard not to get excited for the final chapter of what has already been an epic series of fights. “It was a decision, he didn’t go out and get it”.

“All I know is its 1-1”.

As the biggest star UFC has ever had, McGregor has plenty of options, and he’ll likely get whatever fight he wants. Diaz is the underdog at +145.

These are exciting times in the UFC and we should be in for some big fights and interesting matchups down the stretch this year and into the opening quarter of 2017. Now that he’s avenged his 170-pound loss, McGregor insists that his third fight against Diaz will be on his terms. Eddie Alvarez knocked out dos Anjos in the first round of their title fight at UFC 200.

A fight against McGregor would easily be the biggest of Alvarez’s career, and he would nearly certainly welcome the challenge, as well as the payday. Only this time, instead of trying to end the fight in the middle rounds, he didn’t leave himself vulnerable to the bigger Diaz, going the five-round distance.
