Conor McGregor Won’t be Stripped of UFC Title

The UFC had been pushing for Conor to accept a fight against interim featherweight champ Jose Aldo since last week, always with the implicit threat of stripping McGregor hanging in the air. There was redemption for McGregor this month with the decision victory over Diaz after the Stockton Southpaw handed him his first defeat in the UFC back in March.

The latter has said that he doesn’t think a third fight right away makes sense, and Dana White has also reported that the promotion isn’t interested in McGregor – Diaz III right now.

Straight after the rematch between the two fighters – Diaz was called out McGregor again for a third match.

White also mentioned the situation of former light-heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones and current champion Daniel “DC” Cormier. According to MMA Fighting, White has plans for a fight between Jon Jones and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson for the number 1 contender spot for the light-heavyweight belt. Diaz hurled a water bottle at McGregor, who fired back with some projectiles of his own. “They’re not stupid”, Diaz said. “I’m just over here enjoying the rest of this summer”, Diaz said. This time, it would appear, at lightweight instead of welterweight.

In the next few weeks, we should know who will be headlining the UFC 205 card as it is coming from Madison Square Garden in New York City. “Ffs Conor, this is just repulsive”.

After taking a break from the sport, he says he is ready to return and now is looking for big money fights rather than titles.

An interesting, but admittedly unlikely prospect.

Diaz himself sees no reason to have a trilogy fight with The Notorious because in his mind, he’s 2-0 up on the scoring and isn’t chomping at the bit for another bout with the Dubliner.

Robbie Lawler would be a particularly tough fight for McGregor. Why do I get the feeling this is headed towards another ridiculous battle of the wills that will accomplish nothing but the delaying of McGregor’s next fight?

Unlikely to ever happen, but still worth an honourable mention. That means the best case scenario for Diaz would have been a draw (on judge had it 47-47, while the other two scored it 48-47 for McGregor).

He seems to have softened his stance since fight night, although not by much.

It would most likely take the form of a boxing match, however, which you would imagine Mayweather would win very, very comfortably.
