Conservative Ted Cruz Goes On Offensive Against Donald Trump

“Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump won their victories largely by asserting their independence from the power structures and the big dollar donors that dominate their respective parties”, Miles Rapoport, president of Common Cause, said in a statement.

Sanders led Clinton by 22 percentage points, with more than 90 percent of their party’s vote tabulated.

Mr Trump won 35% of votes, with Ohio Governor John Kasich a distant second on 16%. Whether his message of economic justice and equality can speak to everyone will be seen first in Nevada, and one week later in SC. Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson speaks with Jamie Self of The State newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina, for a primer. As he flew to SC, he told reporters on his chartered plane he’d learned lessons he now meant to apply.

The word “expected” is the battleground on the Democratic side. Upcoming contests in SC and Nevada will put new demographics in play. A strong performance in New Hampshire was critical for Kasich, who all but skipped Iowa’s caucuses to grind out town hall after town hall in New Hampshire. Clinton’s campaign has been in the state for a while, she has an even wider margin of support ahead of Sanders among the African-American community.

For the past 60 years or so, most of the candidates who ended up winning the White House won their party’s primary in the so-called Granite State.

The win for Mr Sanders, with 60per cent of the vote, amounted to a powerful and painful rejection of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who – despite having a deep history with New Hampshire voters and offering policy ideas that seemed to reflect the flinty, moderate politics of the state – only scraped 38.3 per cent.

“I think the Republicans are hoping to gain a little bit more traction here, particularly Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio”.

“Somebody wants to mess with me, they’re messing with the wrong guy, ” Kasich said on NBC’s “Today“. Trump is still at the top.

Mr Kasich, who surged from relative obscurity in New Hampshire, has a poorly funded campaign that will struggle to keep up momentum in SC and beyond. His campaign released a radio ad Wednesday in SC featuring his brother, former President George W. Bush.

“I feel like Bernie Sanders – he really speaks for the people of today and he’s not really trying to appeal to people due to their ethical background”, William Reynolds said.

The Ohio governor is a “new” candidate on voters’ radar after a surprise second place finish. Almost half of Republican voters feel betrayed by their party’s politicians – but they weren’t significantly more likely to support Trump. You know, you look at these politicians they always talk about the six states – you’ve got to win this one, that one. Clinton has been campaigning in beauty shops and barber shops and going to pastors and speaking at NAACP events. Who took more than $1 million in sweetheart loans from Wall Street banks and failed to disclose them, as required by law? So I think that’s why you’re seeing a high turnout and I think that’s why you’re seeing a movement of both of the candidates.
