“This just happened?” he asked again. They are not people who were happy with his leadership.
“I think it’s wonderful, frankly”.
HINKLE: I see him more as a moderate, probably because of his reticence to address issues. But after Obergefell, county clerks have become the latest battleground, as those who disapprove of gay marriage have refused to issue wedding licenses.
Trump isn’t the only one.
Marco Rubio broke it to them in the ballroom.
Olsen offered a message to his party’s 2016 class: “It is going to be really hard for a candidate to win if they don’t have the backing of this group”.
The crowd unleashed a thunderous applause and rose out of their chairs.
Dexter though praised Cruz.
The crowd remained on its feet for 30 seconds.
GONYEA: He said he respects John Boehner, but that it was time to turn the page.
Ted Cruz was less polite. You know it’s craziness.
CRUZ: Y’all come to town and somehow that changes.
In that appearance he spoke about his view on immigration and assimilation. “To that end, I will resign the Speakership and my seat in Congress on October 30″, Boehner said in a written statement.
It’s unclear whether grass-roots conservatives can back up their tough talk. Yesterday, John Boehner was speaker of the House.
Rick Santorum, too, was pleased to hear the news about Boehner.
MONTAGNE: Yeah, yeah, I could tell that, but…
His campaign and allied super PACs have raised gobs of money and conservatives and tea partyers have celebrated the way he has questioned whether GOP leaders in Congress are truly committed to cutting the size and scope of government and pushing pack against the Obama administration’s policies. Bush stands at fourth, with 9.8 percent.
The event attracts conservative Christian activists from across the nation.
One of their most memorable failures came in 2013, after Boehner avoided the “fiscal cliff” catastrophe.
In his speech, he noted that he had the opportunity to visit Kim Davis “in a Kentucky jail house”, making him the first and only person to refer to her by name (Rubio generally referred to Christians who were being persecuted/prosecuted), where he told her “Thank you“.
In a show of support, many also booed when GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump said later at the summit that Rubio is a “clown”. Results of the 2015 straw poll will be announced today.
“We want to see the job being done properly”, Trump said.
The morning began with a rendition of the National Anthem (which an enthusiastic reporter behind me sang with a strong vibrato), an invocation (which obviously invoked Ronald Reagan), and some rousing racism from MC Gil Mertz who remarked about the visit from Chinese President Xi Jiping (he is apparently staying in a hotel across the street) with the joke, “The only Chinese I know is on a menu”. They’re gonna get rid of Obamacare! They don’t govern like it at all. John McCain in 2008.
