The Brazilian defender completed a transfer back to the west London club on deadline day after he opted to leave Paris Saint-Germain after two years in the French capital.

Conte conceded the 29-year-old still has room for improvement, but the Italian believes Luiz has the ability and desire to eventually rank among the best in the world.

Speaking at a news conference at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Friday, Conte said: “I told you that this transfer market was very hard for us to reach our targets, but at the last minute, on the last day, there was this situation which was good for me and the club to improve the squad”.
