Conte Demands Focus After Chelsea’s Loss To Liverpool

The Netherlands global, who scored 11 goals in 38 league appearances for Newcastle last season, is yet to open his account for Liverpool but is confident he will find the back of the net soon.

They then showed their defensive mettle to hang on for a deserved 2-1 victory after Diego Costa halved the deficit. Klopp, after the game, had a number of nice things to say about his side and their performance against Chelsea.

“We had the ball, so it’s about movement, playing football simply”.

‘Liverpool controlled the game in the first half with a lot of possession, changing position, ‘ he said.

“We always know it’s a tough game here to play but I think we did brilliantly”.

David Luiz, meanwhile, lost to Liverpool on his second Chelsea debut, following his return to the club from Paris Saint-Germain – just as he had in his first appearance in February 2011.

The visitors enjoyed more of the ball in the early stages and duly took the lead as Philippe Coutinho, in the side due to a groin problem for Roberto Firmino, crossed to the back-post where Lovren – and two of his team-mates – stood completely unmarked to sweep home.

Diego Costa scored for Chelsea.

“When you give away two goals in this way, it is very hard because Liverpool are a good team and these are tough games”.

Liverpool won the game 4-0.

“When you want to think like a great team you must pay attention in every moment”. In this case we paid because after the first half we were losing 2-0 and then it’s very hard. We were losing 2-0 and it was hard.

Asked why he waited, Conte said: “Because in the second half we started with the same players and we had great intensity, scored a goal and created chances to score another”.

“It’s not important that it’s my first defeat, it’s our first defeat – a Chelsea defeat”. Last season was a bad season.

“Those cups are important and we want to win a trophy this season”.

Costa had been feeding on scraps for an hour until he tucked in his fifth goal of the season from Nemanja Matic’s pull-back.

Sturridge, looking to impress against his former club and with England manager Sam Allardyce watching in the stands, flashed an effort across Courtois’ goal as the Reds continued to dominate.

The run of results has encouraged Liverpool supporters to raise hopes for the rest of the season; and it’s very easy to get carried away, having played so many big boys already… Barring a disappointing defeat against Burnley, Klopp’s side have looked like a well-oiled machine who may be serious contenders for the league title this season.
