Continued flooding in northern England forces emergency gov’t talks as

The ABI said that customers would be contacted proactively in flooded areas to offer assistance, and that loss adjusters would be sent to flooded homes as businesses “as soon as is practically possible”.
“A less visible but vital task has been to identify vulnerable people who may be in need of extra support because they’re not fully independent, whether they live alone or in supported accommodation”.

Up to 40mm of rain could fall, rising to 80mm on higher ground, forecasters said.
He said: “We have been trapped since last night”.
Hundreds of people were evacuated from their homes after water breached flood barriers and poured into the streets.
The company said its engineers had managed to restore power to 18,000 customers since the severe flooding hit but warned that some properties may be without power until Monday.
Communities in Hebden Bridge, Mythamroyd and Sowerby Bridge are among the areas most affected by flooding disruption and emergency services are working in partnership in these and other locations.
