“While my opponent slanders you as deplorable and irredeemable, I call you hardworking American patriots who love your country and want a better future for all of our people”, Mr Trump said in Iowa.
Mr Trump has himself aroused controversy with com ments in which he called some Mexican immigrants criminals and rapists, questioned whether a US-born judge could be fair because of his Mexican heritage and criticised the Muslim parents of an American soldier who died in combat in Iraq. If Clinton had been running against a Republican nominee without Donald Trump’s high negatives, the race wouldn’t be this close, Clinton would be losing by double digits.
