Donald Trump’s official “coming out” party has begun in earnest, with the opening of the four-day Republican convention in Cleveland.
“We have gotten off course and the American people know it”, Sessions said in his speech, warning that crime is rising, terrorist attacks are proliferating, and Congress is deadlocked, arguing that Trump is the only answer.
She said it includes all different races and religions. Mrs. Trump, appearing in a striking white dress with elbow-length sleeves ending in big, puffy cuffs, spoke after an uncharacteristically brief introduction from her husband, who kissed her and called her “my wife, an wonderful mother, an incredible woman”.
Spicer said the phrases used in Trump’s speech are “common” and said he gives Hillary ClintonHillary Rodham ClintonPoll: Most Hispanics see Trump unfavorably Report: Kaine, Vilsack top Clinton’s VP list The Trail 2016: Words matter MORE’s campaign credit for “taking three phrases, going out there and matching it up”.
Numerous party’s past and future stars were glaringly missing from the lineup, underscoring the concerns some GOP leaders have with closely aligning themselves with Trump.
The effort had no chance of success since most of the delegates won by Trump in his GOP nominating victory were bound to vote for him in the roll call under the rules of the Republican primary process. Delegates vote on the rules that will govern the convention week, and insurgent delegates said they would try to force a state-by-state vote – a move that could disrupt floor proceedings even if they fail.
Asked by O’Reilly if he thought his wife was nervous, Trump assumed as much.
Republicans also highlighted at length the deadly 2012 attacks on Americans in Benghazi, Libya, while Clinton was serving as secretary of state.
“Rightly or wrongly, the shootings that we’ve had have vaulted, not just national security in terms of external terrorism but also the knowledge that terrorism is occurring within our country”, Kaufmann said.
“It doesn’t bode well that we’re trying to do this at the last minute on national television”, Harris said.
The New Yorker’s embrace by the Republican National Convention marks a remarkable moment in USA political history and validates a campaign that shattered precedent, defied pundits and usurped the GOP establishment. Republicans are trying to focus on defeating presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and protecting the United States and its troops overseas from terrorism. “This is surreal”, said Utah Sen. But in her first full-length speech on her own, she presented herself as a kindler, gentler counterpart to her often bombastic husband.
Clinton, during remarks Monday at the NAACP’s annual convention, said there was no justification for directing violence at law enforcement. “I assure you, he’s the man”.
SC delegate Bill Pickle also says some are calling for an emergency vote to pull the leadership from party Chairman Reince Priebus and elect a new chair.
Donald Trump’s wife Melania Trump is expected to speak later in the day, along with senators and representatives.
Trump’s son and adviser, Donald Trump Jr, threatened the leaders of the attempted revolt, saying: “Your careers are finished”, in a message posted on Twitter. So did Mitt Romney, the party’s most recent presidential nominee, and the party’s two most recent presidents, George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush.
“Donald is intensely loyal to family, friends, employees, country”, she said.
