Convention guide: Clinton gets to make her own case Thursday

Ahead of Hillary Clinton’s highly anticipated acceptance speech for the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday, July 28, Hillary for America released excerpts from her address. “After all, when there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit”. “So maybe we’ve got kind of a high point of the campaign now and then it will taper off just a bit between now and Labor Day and then get going again”.

It had been a tough week for Clinton, who was the target of protests by pro-Sanders groups galvanized against the Democratic nominee.

“This isn’t reality television, this is reality”, Bloomberg said, referencing Trump’s former job hosting a show on NBC.

“Tonight’s speech was merely a litany of platitudes which dodged a serious discussion of our slumping economy and our diminished standing in the world under President Obama, topics which should be well-known to her after spending years in his cabinet”, Priebus said. Clinton specifically asked for Sanders’ supporters to vote for her.

Some Sanders delegates threatened to storm out of her speech, though Sanders himself was sitting in the audience and smiled when Clinton mentioned him.

Sanders won nearly two dozen states, and his most strident supporters rattled the convention with vocal outbursts, walkouts and protests.

Clinton’s backers unleashed a litany of criticism.

“I know with all my heart that my mother will make us proud”, she said. “Your cause is our cause. Our country needs your ideas, energy and passion”.

Division aside, Thursday will be a historic night for Clinton.

She didn’t get very far before being interrupted by chants of “Hillary!”.

For Clinton, the nod is the newest entry in an already packed political resume. But that sound-bite might as well refer to the revelations that Clinton and her husband Bill chased money all around the world – including money from corrupt foreign governments.

Now, Clinton is the first former spouse of a president to be nominated for the White House.

Republican Donald Trump did his best to steal the spotlight Wednesday.

Mr Trump, a 70-year-old NY businessman who has never held political office, is running just ahead of Mrs Clinton in a RealClearPolitics average of recent national opinion polls. “We will not build a wall”. “Even in the midst of crisis, she listens to people, and she keeps her cool, and she treats everybody with respect”, Obama declared. “We will work with all our allies to fight and defeat terrorism”, Hillary said during the speech. “That’s what happens when we try”.

One source of that distrust is her use of a private email system during her time as secretary state, which was the subject of a congressional investigation and a probe by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
