Cop Daniel Holtzclaw convicted of rape, sentenced to life in prison
Celebrities and other well-known public figures weren’t the only ones to sound off on what has come to be known as Black Twitter, with many other African-American users and organizations expressing their opinion on the verdict.

A former Oklahoma City police officer accused of sexually assaulting 13 women while on duty was convicted on Thursday, and now faces more than 260 years in jail.
The Oklahoma City jury charged with deciding Holtzclaw’s fate have not yet reached a decision as of 5:27 p.m. on Wednesday. In brief testimony Tuesday, the woman admitted to taking a hit of marijuana, but said she wasn’t high when Holtzclaw pulled her over. Holtzclaw was sacked from the department after allegations surfaced in 2014, which led to an internal investigation.
So I would be lying if I said I was optimistic about the possible outcome of Daniel Holtzclaw, and the multiple rape case brought against him. He’s a police officer.
If somebody else was in that situation I wouldn’t keep on telling them that, you know, because I wouldn’t want them to feel uncomfortable.
Hill’s parents asked that several city leaders and state leaders be investigated.
Holtzclaw was convicted of assaults on eight victims, including a grandmother in her 50s and a 17 year old. Two days after the jury began its deliberations, there was a growing unease about the potential for a not-guilty verdict.
Detectives conducting an internal investigation confirmed that Holtzclaw’s police vehicle was exactly where the women said it was when they described being raped by the predatory officer.
Then, he would subject them to assaults that escalated from groping to oral sodomy and rape.
The Associated Press generally does not identify victims of sex crimes and is not using the mother’s name so as not to identify her daughter, who was 17 when she was attacked. Martin, a black teenager, was fatally shot by George Zimmerman, who was acquitted of charges in 2013. Numerous women had arrest records or histories of drug abuse.
Holtzclaw could be sentenced to life in prison when he appears in court on January 21.
“Don’t let this be the only time that you come forward when people of color confront you with a situation that is not always favorable to your so-called dialect”, Pruitt told the media.
So when I watched Holtzclaw rock back and forth, sobbing and hitting his forehead on the desk in front of him as he was sentenced to a recommended 263 years for rape, forcible sodomy and a slew of other equally disgusting acts, I was admittedly thankful. Formal sentencing is set for next month.
“Not only is this individual stopping women who fit a profile of members of our society who are confronted rightly or wrongly by police officers all the time”, The Atlantic quoted Oklahoma County prosecutor Gayland Gieger. “We’re not saying justice can’t prevail, but we can be suspicious of it being (run) in a manner”.
Holtzclaw was a former star linebacker on the Eastern Michigan University football team with a degree in criminal justice.
Holtzclaw allegedly pulled one woman over in her auto and suspected her of drunken driving.
Oklahoma County’s top prosecutor remains optimistic that a jury will return guilty verdicts in the case of a former Oklahoma City police officer accused of sexually victimizing 13 black women. Protesters repeatedly gathered outside.
Holtzclaw’s mother, father and sister were in the courtroom as the verdict was read.
Thirteen women accusing him of sexual assault testified in the trial. “It’s brutal, but I think justice was served”. In what felt like a unique moment, justice was not fooled by the aggressive defense mounted by Holtzclaw’s attorney, Scott Adams, which exploited racist stereotypes, class bias and fears about the majority-black east side community from which Holtzclaw culled his victims.

“It’s a problem for the nation”, she told The Associated Press.
