There is no information about a memorial, however, during the briefing, Chief Zimmerman extended condolences to the slain officer’s family.
“It is extremely hard, but something you have to do”.
“There’s nothing that prepares you to do that”, she said. Officers had found a blood trail leading toward him.
Residents in the vicinity of the shooting were told to shelter in place, and the public was urged to avoid the area.
Video footage from the scene showed police taking a person into custody nearby, but it was not immediately clear if it was the suspect police were seeking.
Just a few days ago, the bands were removed following a period of mourning for the fallen Baton Rouge, Louisiana law enforcement officers.
