Cops: Man out on bond for beating wife has now kidnapped her

Goodwin, Ewing’s lawyer, said Tierne Ewing had refused to testify at her husband’s preliminary hearing and had requested that a temporary restraining order be lifted, which a judge denied. Police say 48-year-old Tierne Ewing was found dead late Tuesday after being kidnapped for a second time by estranged husband Kevin Ewing, 47, WTAE reports. He was pronounced brain-dead at UPMC Presbyterian hospital on Wednesday afternoon, officials told WPXI. The medical examiner said an autopsy is pending, as Kevin Ewing remained on a ventilator until a decision about organ donation was made. She also told police he had held her and his wife in the basement at gunpoint for several hours before leaving. Police have revealed few details about why that occurred, but online court records show they have an arrest warrant for Ewing on kidnapping, terroristic threats, weapons charges and other crimes. Prosecutors accused him of holding a gun to her head, binding her hands, pistol-whipping her, hitting her with a hammer and threatening to kill her and himself.

Tierne Ewing escaped when her husband sent her into a credit union to withdraw money and she told tellers she was being held against her will and feared that her husband would kill her. It was the second time within two months he had kidnapped her. Police said that he held her at gunpoint and forced her into a auto.

Kevin Ewing had previously been arrested for holding his wife hostage for nearly two weeks starting in late June.

North Strabane police arrested him on July 8 and Magistrate Mark Wilson set bail at $100,000. On July 15. Assistant District Attorney Kristin Clingerman filed an emergency motion asking to keep Kevin Ewing in jail by increasing his bail.

Kevin Ewing was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and unlawful restraint, but he posted $100,000 bond and was released on July 11.

“She was terrified, shaking, scared”.

Ewing abducted his wife at gunpoint from his mother’s home, also in West Finley, near the West Virginia border, at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

According to county adult probation officials, such devices can be programmed to provide Global Positioning System information but only if the court orders that. He said an alert is sent if the bracelet is tampered with or opened, but that alert is not instantaneous.

When asked specifically if Kevin Ewing’s bracelet worked, he said he could not comment on an open investigation. Oh, give me a break.
