Cops nab kangaroo on Staten Island

“The little marsupial was wandering near Alb’s Auto fix Shop on Travis Ave. about 8 a.m. before it ducked into a driveway”, bystander and auto shop owner Urim Osmani said to one news service. We thought it was a deer.

A kangaroo was on his way back home to upstate New York Saturday afternoon, after hopping away from the home where his owner was staying on Staten Island.

“When we got close by, he stands up on two legs”, Osmani said.

A kangaroo named Buster made a decision to take in the handsome fall weather on Staten Island Saturday. “I said, ‘What’s a kangaroo doing on Staten Island?'”

The incident occurred on the same block where a zebra named Razzi and a pony named Casper escaped three years ago and took a stroll down Victory Boulevard before they were lured back home with food.

She could not provide the name and exact address of the owner, saying only that he “lived upstate”, and had driven down to Staten Island the night before with Buster in the auto to show the kangaroo off to friends.

Buster’s adventure in the big city lasted about 10 to 15 minutes, according to a police source. While kangaroos are not allowed in NYC since they are considered illegal pets (“All marsupials, including, but not limited to, Tasmanian devil, dasyure, bandicoot, kangaroo, wallaby, opossum, wombat, koala bear, cuscus, numbat and pigmy, sugar and greater glider”), no charges were filed against the owner since he was just visiting, and Buster remains in his custody. “Since he was visiting the area and was returning home today, there was no violation”.

Buster wasn’t injured, neither were the police who responded. “It jumped a couple of times and then it disappeared”.
