Corbyn Ally Suggests Labour’s Top Donor Shouldn’t Vote in Race

“A number of people have contacted me as a result of that and we have sent the names in that we’re concerned about to the general secretary, and asked him to make sure that the party checks into this carefully to make sure that everyone who is eligible to vote is able to vote in this election”.

The leader of a pro-Jeremy Corbyn trade union has said he is considering taking legal action against his suspension from the Labour party, a decision that has brought accusations about a “rigged purge” of Corbyn supporters.

“In addition, the Labour Party has nearly tripled in size to become the largest political party in Europe”.

The suspension highlights what some Corbyn supporters see as wider attempts by those in the party who support the leadership challenger, Owen Smith, to weed out members and registered supporters who are seeking to vote to keep Corbyn in office.

Mr Smith said he was “gutted” by the European Union referendum result, and said he was prepared to fight Brexit by opposing a vote to trigger Article 50 in parliament and by pledging to remain or rejoin the European Union in a manifesto for the next general election.

Labour has said it carries out a validation process for those signing up for a vote in the contest, including “verifying all voters share the aims and values” of the party and ensuring they conduct themselves respectfully towards others.

“I believe this flies in the face of natural justice”.

Mr Smith also expressed alarm when, in praising Ms Dugdale’s leadership, members of the audience laughed and jeered.

Labour has said only that it does not discuss national executive committee (NEC) decisions concerning individual members.

“She had the courtesy to tell me that she wasn’t going to be supporting me in this election before she announced her support for Owen Smith”.

Mr Corbyn will launch his arts strategy in Edinburgh as the city’s world famous festival approaches its end.

“I’m the leader of the UK Labour Party and obviously I have to work in co-operation with the leader of the Scottish party and I’m very happy to do that”. He claimed: “There is creativity in all of us but we need to give people the opportunities for this creativity to flourish”.

JEREMY CORBYN will today promise to reverse cuts to the arts and put lottery funding into regional control. “I hope my fellow artists will stand behind his vision and leadership”, he added.
