Cornhuskers punter Sam Foltz killed in auto crash

Former Michigan State University punter Mike Sadler was among those killed in a vehicle crash overnight in Wisconsin, according to the Lincoln Star Journal. The crash reportedly occurred in Wisconsin.

“All of the university of Nebraska is heartbroken”, Green told the newspaper. “The young men in our football program are hurting but I know that their strength of character and resolve will bring us together and we will honor Sam every day moving forward”. He won the Big Ten’s punter of the year award last fall and was on the Ray Guy Award watch list for the best punter in the country this summer. He was also named first-team Big Ten Punter by the media, coaches, Associated Press, and ESPN last season as well. He has volunteered with team hospital visits, School is Cool Week, the Lincoln Marathon and Nebraska’s Sportsmanship Rally. Foltz averaged 44.23 yards per punt in 2015.

Fans and friends are holding a vigil at 3 p.m. on the north side of Memorial Stadium next to the Tom Osborne and Brook Berringer statue.

Per reports, Foltz passed away in a tragic auto accident.
