And Millward, who already has a gold and two bronze medals to her name from Rio, said: “It was a very good swim for me”.
Konkoly, a Georgetown University graduate, suffered a life-altering injury when she fell five stories from her dorm room window as a freshman in January 2011.
Hannah Russell booked herself a middle lane in tonight’s S13 100m freestyle final after qualifying fastest in the heats, just dipping under the minute mark in 59.99.
The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences student and UQ Sports Achievement Scholarship recipient claimed back-to-back Paralympic gold medals in the S9 400m Freestyle.
Konkoly first gold was in the 100 yard freestyle on Monday, which she won with another world record time of 1:00.91.
In Rio, Konkoly cruised to a Paralympic record in her preliminary heat, touching the wall in 28.36 to best China’s Lin Ping, who set the previous mark (29.12) in London in 2012, by less than a second. She had already set the world record – twice – at the U.S. Paralympic Trials in July.
In the final, Konkoly was again matched up with Ping, as well as the previous world record holder – Ellie Cole from Australia.
“No-one likes coming fourth, but I really feel I’ve had a really strong meet, done the best I can and I’ve literally given it everything”. She will take to the water one last time on Friday in the 34-point 4×100-meter medley relay.
Konkoly still has two more chances to earn medals in Rio as she will be part of the US 34-point 4×100-meter freestyle relay team on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Stephanie Millward set a new Paralympic record in the S8 50m freestyle, clocking 30.82secs to qualify fastest for the final as she chases a fourth medal of the Games.
