Correa, Gonzalez homer, Astros beat Mariners 6-3

Stars Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa each came a triple shy of recording the cycle as the home club put up 16 runs on 14 hits against a Minnesota (8-20) staff that allowed 14 runs over the first five innings.

Marwin Gonzalez had a two-run homer and also doubled to help the Astros win for the third time in four games.

Hughes was disappointed he wasn’t able to do more on Wednesday night.

The Mariners had to piece together the rest of the game with three relievers after Walker’s early exit.

Joe Mauer singled for Minnesota’s fourth straight hit, but Fiers settled down after that to retire the next three and limit the damage. Berrios is a ballyhooed prospect who struggled in his debut against the Indians, but with the Twins missing starters Ervin Santana and Kyle Gibson, his promotion was necessary.

Astros: RHP Lance McCullers (right shoulder soreness) is scheduled to make a rehabilitation start Saturday for Triple-A Fresno at El Paso….

The Seattle Mariners (17-12) will take on the Houston Astros (11-19) in game three of their four-game weekend series this evening at Minute Maid Park.
