Cortana Exits Public Beta And Is Now Officially Available For Android

The Cortana app can send a missed call alert to a Windows 10 PC and automatically send a text back to the caller. Cortana is more deeply integrated into the OS meaning that it is possible to voice activate the tool from any screen, and also toggle system settings. The standard versions of this app will be available in your respective app stores, straight through the iOS App Store and Google Play.

Seven months after Microsoft revealed that it would be bringing its Cortana digital assistant to Android and iOS, the company is following through on that promise. Microsoft detailed a few features for Cortana at Business Insider’s Ignition Conference in New York City, including abilities like asking Cortana for help with your voice without having to open up the app. Unfortunately, most of those features won’t be available to iOS users due to certain developer restrictions that fence off Cortana from becoming fully integrated into iOS. We Android users ask Google questions by default, but when you’re on a modern Windows device, Cortana’s the one who will chime in with an answer.

If you’ve no experience with Cortana, it’s not too dissimilar to the likes of Apple’s Siri or Google Now.

iOS/Android: Cortana, one of the cooler features of Windows 10, is now available to iOS and Andorid users. “With a Windows 10 PC in the mix we think we can do some pretty powerful things”.

So once Cortana is installed on an Android device with Google Now turned on, the microphone feature could stop working correctly and cause the aforementioned bug.

But on iOS and Android, Cortana is much more limited. One of these partners is the software group Cyanogen.

Microsoft says that this is just the beginning of its efforts on that front, adding that “Cortana will be rolled out to other Cyanogen OS powered devices early next year with even greater functionality, and we look forward to doing even more together in the future”.
