Cosby could face multiple accusers at June assault trial

Though witnesses from unrelated cases are not often allowed in a criminal trial, Steele is pushing to call the women to establish a pattern of behavior he says helps prove Cosby’s guilt in the Constand case.

Prosecutors said they reviewed accusations made by 50 Cosby accusers and concluded that 13 said they were also drugged or intoxicated and then molested by Cosby.

In previous court filings, prosecutors published transcripts showing Cosby complaining about a “beeping” noise on the line that was actually Constand’s mom recording the chat.

In other pretrial maneuvering, the defense said it will file a motion seeking to move the trial outside the county on the grounds that District Attorney Kevin Steele turned the Cosby allegations into a campaign issue during his election a year ago.

“I told him, ‘I can’t talk, Mr Cosby.’ I started to panic”, she said in a criminal complaint in December previous year.

“The time has come to shine a spotlight on the trampling of Mr. Cosby’s civil rights”, Cosby’s lawyer said in the statement. Cosby had called her from California.

O’Neill, who made no ruling Tuesday, asked many probing questions of McMonagle, and pointed out that Constand’s mother had done nothing illegal, and that no one has been prosecuted as a result of the call, the existence of which has been known for years.

Cosby dropped his media handler, Washington lawyer Monique Pressley, ahead of the hearing, where a judge could set a trial date. The woman, a restaurant worker in the San Francisco area, said she lost consciousness after Cosby poured her a glass of wine and gave her a headache pill and woke up wearing only her underwear. In his deposition, he later said he feared sounding like “a dirty old man” on the call.

Ferman ordered detectives to conduct an independent investigation of the Constand case after a federal judge unsealed Cosby’s deposition in the civil case Constand filed against him. Gianna Constand was heard lying to Cosby about recording the conversation as they discussed what drug Cosby gave her daughter on the night she says she was sexually assaulted. He also admitted to a string of extramarital affairs and sexual “rendezvous, ” some with women in their late teens and early 20s.

Cosby has been fighting the charges since his December 30 arrest.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele declined comment on Cosby’s statement.

Cosby and his lawyers appeared at a hearing Tuesday in another effort to avoid bringing the criminal case to trial, or having it moved out of the Philadelphia suburbs, where the alleged crimes took place. Cosby has replaced one Los Angeles law firm with another on his defense team, the second time he has done so in a year.
