Cosby’s wife refused to answer: transcript

Camille Cosby’s February deposition in a defamation case brought by several women who have previously accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault was combative.

But Camille Cosby gave few answers in the six-hour-long deposition, often invoking spousal privilege and at times refusing to answer questions altogether, according to a transcript released Friday.

In total, the deposition lasted about eight hours, but included frequent breaks and interruptions.

But Camille Cosby’s attorney, Monique Pressley, objected, and Camille said, “I am not answering that”.

Camille “didn’t claim any privilege” when she sat down with Oprah to discuss her hubby’s admitted affair with Shawn Thompson and how she encouraged him to take a DNA test to prove Thompson’s daughter Autumn Jackson wasn’t his love child, the lawyer said during the tense session inside a Springfield, Mass., hotel. Camille Cosby replied: “And I won’t”.

The transcript reveals that the questions she faced were intense. She also was asked if her husband used his position and power “to manipulate young women”.

However, when asked repeatedly if she thought her husband was being deceitful, or whether or not she had an opinion on whether Bill Cosby deceived her, Camille Cosby invoked marital privilege or said she had no opinion.

Taken from the first of two depositions she has submitted to under court order, the transcript shed little light on a mounting scandal that has shattered the comedian’s career, even as Camille Cosby has stood steadfastly by her husband.

Camille Cosby was testifying in a civil defamation lawsuit field in federal court in MA by seven women who allege the comedian sexually assaulted them decades ago.

‘I do not have to, ‘ she said. “We are thankful for this distraction to now be over”. Cosby is spending millions of dollars on teams of high-priced lawyers across the country amid a cascade of sexual assault allegations, defamation claims and insurance disputes.

“I do not have an opinion”, she said.

At another point, Cammarata asked Camille, “Now, do you have an opinion based on everything that you know as to whether or not throughout your marriage, your husband acted with a lack of integrity?”

Camille Cosby, wife of comedian Bill Cosby, told a lawyer for seven woman suing her husband over accusations of sexual abuse that it was a “big deal” in the 1970s when she learned her husband had been unfaithful in their marriage.

Gloria Allred says Hefner provided a deposition on Wednesday at the Playboy Mansion but the contents of the testimony are under seal. However, later she said, “it was a big deal then, yes” when it was revealed that in the 1970s Bill Cosby had extramarital affairs. He’s also been formally charged with sexually assaulting former Temple University employee Andrea Constand and pleaded not guilty.

In the sexual battery lawsuit filed in Los Angeles, Judy Huth says Cosby forced her to perform a sex act on him at the Playboy Mansion around 1974, when she was just 15 years old.

“In December, Bill Cosby’s lawyers filed a countersuit against the women, alleging they “engaged in a campaign to assassinate Mr. Cosby’s reputation and character… and “[Their] campaign is nothing more than an opportunistic attempt to extract financial gain from him”.
