Costco Rotisserie Chicken Salad from Taylor Farms Recalled for Possible E.coli
Six people got ill in four in Colorado, Montana, five in Utah, and one each in Virginia, Missouri, California and Washington state. The FDA urged for the recall of all other products containing celery from Taylor Farms out of “an abundance of caution”. Customers who have questions about the recall can contact Safeway at 1-877-SAFEWAY anytime, or Taylor Farms at 209-830-3141 Monday to Friday, exclusive of holidays, between the hours of 8am-5pm (PST). The retailer has a single supplier of the vegetables it uses in its chicken salads sold throughout at all U.S. stores.

According to the Associated Press, Costco believes that contamination of their rotisserie chicken salad is linked to produce.
He says one additional test is needed to confirm that the vegetables carried the same E. coli strain connected with the outbreak. Five victims were hospitalized and two developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure.
UPI has a statement from Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University, who commented on the seriousness of this E. Coli outbreak. “They really liked and ate the rotisserie chicken salad”, he said. Since the E. coli outbreak, Costco stores nationwide have discontinued the chicken salad in their stores.
Health investigators say the chicken salad in question was purchased between October 18, 2015 and November 23, 2015 and should have item number 37719 printed on the label.

“Costco has always been a leader in food safety at retail, it just goes to show you how important controlling your supply chain is”, Marler said. In addition to kidney failure, HUS can cause seizure, stroke, coma and death. Classical E. coli symptoms include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting, and these typically manifest about three to seven days from exposure.
