Cougar NT Robert Barber expelled, still practicing while he appeals

Barber was also expelled this week by the WSU student conduct board after their investigation into a party assault that occurred on July 23.

“Incidents such as the one we are discussing today require student-athletes to step away from situations that show signs of trouble”, WSU athletic director Bill Moos said at the press conference.

Washington State nose tackle Robert Barber has been expelled from school, but is still on the university’s football team. But because Barber has not been charged with a crime, it is up to coach Mike Leach to decide whether he will be allowed to continue practicing and playing with the football team. Witnesses accused WSU football players of the assault that left Rodriguez’s jaw broken, while a second WSU student who declined to be named suffered a concussion. Baker and Fehoko were later released following the standard of the police department for people that are not considered a risk or a danger to the community.

The Pullman Police Department is recommending charges of second-degree assault for Barber and Luani, stemming from two separate incidents.

“I’ve personally been monitoring these cases”, Jenkins said, “and I … have come to the conclusion that there is no evidence to suggest that (football players) have been targeted”.

The news comes almost two months after a large fight involving multiple WSU football players and several students broke out outside a house party in Pullman.

PULLMAN-Recently arrested Washington State football players Logan Tago and Robert Barber are on the field warming up as the Cougars prepare for their upcoming game against the University of Idaho.

“Don’t judge your athletic program by a couple of incidents like this”, Moos said.

Here is the full release from the police department.

“That has to be within (coach Mike Leach’s) shop”. He’s appealing that decision and is still a member of the football team during that process. “I think he was fed up with the crap on the Shalom deal, because it was the second one”, Moos said in regards to the arrest of safety Shalom Luani, who was suspended against Eastern Washington but has not been charged with a felony. But just because they were there doesn’t mean they are guilty of something.

However, it was said that 6-3, 305-pound fifth-year senior nose tackle Barber, will be probably backed up by Ngalu Tapa, a 319-pound third-year sophomore.

His backup, Ngalu Tapa, is a redshirt sophomore who took some reps in the Cougars’ first two games but did not register a stat and has never started a game in his career.
