Coughlin resigns as Giants head coach
“I think he’s proven himself to be a very good teacher, has a very good handle on our offense”, team co-owner John Mara said about McAdoo. I’ve said that over and over again, it can change your whole season just a couple of two or three plays.

The 69-year-old handed in his resignation today, after the final game of the season for the team ended in a 35-30 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving them with a 6-10 record this year.
He was also an assistant coach in the Giants’ Super Bowl victory over Buffalo in 1991.
Since winning his last championship in 2011, Coughlin’s teams have slipped, however, largely due to injuries and high draft picks that did not pan out.
But it’s Manning who must now soldier on and lead the Giants without Coughlin, the only National Football League coach he’s ever known.
New Yorkers and Giants fans, in particular, might have long since soured on Coughlin, but he is a beloved figure both in the locker-room and within the Giants organization.
The fact that he is scheduled to hold a joint news conference on Tuesday morning with John Mara and Steve Tisch – patriarchs of the Giants’ co-owning families – hopefully means he isn’t.
Former Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi, who hired Coughlin in 2004: “Tom Coughlin is a great coach and an even better man. He has left his mark on this great franchise, and his legacy of excellence is secure”.
In my “Five things I think I think” post earlier on Tuesday, I mentioned the idea that with Tom Coughlin out as coach general manager Jerry Reese was now directly in the line of fire for recent failing by the New York Giants.
“I said yesterday that it was not a sad day for me, or for us, for Judy, for my family”.
“He definitely has not failed these players”, Manning said of Coughlin. I am gratified and proud that we were able to deliver two more Lombardi trophies to the display case in our lobby during that time. And I do- I’m not making any excuses- we’ve got some personal issues that we have got to resolve.
“It was truly fulfilling to be the leader of those teams”, Coughlin said. Coughlin, who turns 70 this August, then took over as head coach at Boston College before leaving after 1993 to become the first head coach in the history of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Coughlin alluded to Manning perhaps thinking he was the reason the team has flailed in the past few years.
