Captain America: Civil War is now in theaters.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have made a almost impossible task look effortless; the MCU will never be the same after the events of Civil War, and I can’t wait to see what they cook up for the Avengers’ two-part Infinity War.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War ($3.6 million) and Key & Peele comedy Keanu ($3.1 million) occupy the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

The box office weekend tails off significantly after Jungle Book.

In news that will surprise nobody, “Captain America: Civil War” has opened up to a huge box office amount in the USA after finally hitting cinemas there on Friday. This time around, studios will introduce at least 16 films with production costs of US$100 million or more (sometimes much more), compared with 10 past year.

As a result, “Zootopia” has eclipsed Warner Bros’ “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” by $300,000 as the year’s second-biggest domestic grosser after Fox’s “Deadpool” at $362.2 million. “Captain America: Civil War” knocked off the third installment of Marvel’s “Iron Man” franchise for fifth place in the all-time record books, which brought in $174.1 million.

Civil War now has nearly $670 million globally, and Disney is following suit being the fastest studio to pass $3 billion globally.

The visual cues are more obvious, such as the shot that features Iron Man blasting at Captain America’s shield head-on and Ant-Man being fired on one of Hawkeye’s arrows. Since both Civil War and Batman v Superman opened below the highest of expectations, even with Civil War’s much better reviews, the old “superhero fatigue” complaint will probably start springing up.

The box office success of Disney’s Captain America continues on the global scale too with a further $220m taken in its second weekend internationally, pushing the Marvel tentpole to $496.6m overseas and $678.4m worldwide.
