Could Samsung’s Answer To iPhone Upgrade Program Come — Samsung Leasing Program

Samsung may be following Apple’s lead and planning to introduce a phone leasing program directly to users, according to a report on Forbes that cited unnamed sources. It’s been a long time, mobile carriers continued to give financial support to own their high-end smartphones in two year contract.

After launching a couple of ads that focused on wireless charging and phone customization, Samsung is back with new commercials that show two more unique features from its top-of-the-line Galaxy handsets – well, at least one of them is pretty unique to Samsung‘s lineup.

For years, smartphone hardware was subsidized by carriers such as Telstra and Optus who locked customers into two-year contracts. With true purchase costs now much more visible, manufacturers have a strong incentive to offer attractive financing in order to encourage regular upgrades … That monthly payment includes AppleCare coverage and starts at around $32 per month for the lowest model iPhone.

Samsung’s Galaxy leasing program is allegedly set to launch sometime in the coming months, though it’s said that Samsung could push its debut up. Analysts responded well to Apple’s plans saying it may do the company well in the future. An upgrade option is also available for these customers.

Meanwhile Apple’s next iPhone has already sold out with the United States tech firm admitting it can’t keep up with orders.

But if you don’t mind the potential pitfalls that come with leasing a phone (like having to fork it over when you want to get a different one) then it’s certainly something you should consider should Samsung go through with their plans. Moving to another carrier and getting a phone unlocked can be a tedious process as well, which is why the new offer from Apple is said to be the best way to buy the iPhone 6s, according to The Verge. Customers can choose their own carrier: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile; however, all payments are be made to Apple.

Will Samsung be able to make the same strides with its upcoming leasing program is anyone’s guess at this point. This has given birth to leasing programs backed by smartphone makers. So it makes ideal sense that Samsung, Apple’s biggest rival and always accused of copying it, is gunning for something similar.
