Could We Be Getting A New Duke Nukem Game?

It’s likely that it will be an HD remake of some kind. It culminated in the release of Duke Nukem 3D in 1996, a first-person shooter that remains one of the best games ever made for that genre. The company claimed the full rights to the Duke Nukem brand in August 2015.

Fine print on a teaser website mentions Balls of Steel, a pinball game connected with Duke Nukem 3D, leading many to speculate that a refreshed version of the classic FPS will be released in celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary.

World Tour will keep the 2D sprites of the original Duke Nukem 3D, but will feature enhanced lighting effects, and will include new/original content. But, with the Duke Nukem franchise now owned by Gearbox Software there’s a chance this could be good.

The protagonist is also making a bit of noise on social media, as official Duke Nukem Facebook pages and Twitter accounts have been revived.

The official Duke Nukem website has been refreshed with a countdown clock that will expire on September 2. On top of the game being 20, it got pulled from Steam a couple of months ago.

The last hint at what is happening is that the countdown timer ends at the same time that Gearbox’s PAX West panel ends, so it seems they’ll be announcing the title towards the end of the panel.
