Country star Eddie Montgomery’s 19-year-old Hunter son dies after accident

“My son Hunter went to heaven today”, Eddie wrote in a statement on the duo’s website. (You can buy it HERE.) They were awarded Favorite New Artist in Country at the 1999 American Music Awards.

Hunter Montgomery’s family have not made the details of the accident that led to his death public.

Montgomery said in the statement that he appreciated the prayers from fans and for “giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye”.

In August 2014, Hunter was engaged to his girlfriend after proposing to her during one of his dad’s concerts.

50-year-old Montgomery, who enjoyed commercial and critical success with Montgomery Gentry, has been battling both professional and personal issues over the last couple of years. In 2010, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer (which was removed) and then went through a divorce with wife Tracy Nunan. Thankfully, he was declared cancer free one year later.

“Our sincerest love, thoughts and prayers are with Eddie today”, the tweet read.

In April 2014, he married second wife Jennifer Belcher. Montgomery Gentry released their Folks Like Us album in June via Blaster Records.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been set.
