Couple arrested over fake bomb scare in Air France flight

A retired French cops officers officer traveling on Air France was detained after a pretend bomb hidden in a rest room forced his Paris-bound flight to make an emergency landing in Kenya, in accordance to prosecutors. Air France said the device was made out of cardboard, paper, and a kitchen timer, and posed no danger.

Sunday’s events marked the fourth such hoax for Air France.

The 459 passengers and 14 crew were flown back to the Paris airport one day after they were forced to land in Mombasa. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for those attacks and for downing a plane October 31 carrying Russian tourists out of Egypt, killing all 224 people on board. Gagey said there had been three bomb scares on Air France planes in the United States in the past 15 days.

Air France began service from Dulles International Airport to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on Monday, June 6, 2011 using an Airbus A380 jumbo jet, the first airline to bring the double decker jet into Washington service.

Antoine Dupont of Lille said, “I really admired the crew, because they thought it was a real bomb and they remained very serene”, he said.

A Kenyan police official previously said six passengers had been questioned Sunday, including the person who discovered the fake bomb and alerted the plane’s crew members about the device.
