“We are waiting for medical examiner confirmation but we have reason to believe that they are Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenaude”, Ireton said. He sympathized with the victims’ families and offered limited cooperation to investigators, but he insisted he’s innocent of murder, said his attorney, James Kirkham. They shared a gated driveway with suspect John Blaine Reed, 53, who is still at large.

On Tuesday, Tony Reed pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder during his arraignment in Everett – his first court appearance in Washington since U.S. Marshals took him into custody May 16 at the San Ysidro Port of Entry at the U.S. -Mexico border.

John Reed and the couple were former neighbors.

Reports on how Patrick Shunn, 45, and Monique, 46, were killed come after the couple was reported missing on April 11 after not showing up to an Iron Maiden concert.

Off a remote logging road in Washington’s Cascade foothills, evergreen boughs and carnations mark the spot where detectives found a couple’s grave six weeks after their disappearance.

Authorities say John Reed and the couple had been involved in a property dispute. Reed threatened to shoot or assault them if they didn’t leave him alone, according to the affidavit for a search warrant.

The younger Reed has not helped track down his brother, prosecutors say.

Authorities later found dried blood in the bathtub of John Reed’s former home and bags of blood-covered, gasoline-soaked clothing under a mattress in the yard, the documents said.
