Couple Waits 9 Years to Open Wedding Gift
The Gunns, now parents of two, never turned to the unopened wedding gift – until May 29 of this year, when they finally chose to discover what was inside.

Recently, they were having a glass of wine on their deck after putting the kids to bed.
It took Kathy and Brandon Gunn of Northville, Michigan nearly a decade to dive into a present that was given to them on the day of their September 1, 2007 nuptials.
In an email to FOX 2, Kathy says she spoke with her aunt Wednesday night, and that her aunt is just in awe of social media and how quickly news can travel, and how far reaching the story has been.
“It forced us to reassess situations”, Kathy wrote in a Facebook post about the mystery present.
Apparently it took the pair nine years to finally open the package and even then it was not in bad spirits, talk about a healthy marriage!
“Today, we chose to open that box, because I finally had a realisation”.
When Kathy and her husband Brandon were preparing to attend a wedding in Kalamazoo, Michigan, they wondered about what gift they should buy the newlyweds. ‘Was it really time to open the box?
Finally, on August 30, after the couple put their kids to bed and had some wine, they chose to crack open the box. What if this isn’t our worst fight? So, we thought the box would save “us” – and in a way it did. What if there’s a worse one ahead of us and we don’t have our box?!? I think the true story was working it out for ourselves and there wasn’t any gift that was going to reunite us, or make it better. Brandon’s note included cash and instructed him to purchase flowers and bottle of wine, while Kathy’s also contained cash and told her to buy “a pizza, shrimp or something you both like”.
“Do not open until 1st disagreement”. Now, there had obviously been plenty of disagreements, arguments and slammed doors throughout our 9 years.
“. It somehow taught us about tolerance, understanding, compromise and patience”, Kathy said of the box’s symbolism. Kathy explained that they were too stubborn and also determined to make any disagreement work so they wouldn’t have to open it.
“All along, we assumed that the contents of that box held the key to saving a marriage, an age old trick unbeknownst to us rookies”. It had to be, after all, since Aunt Alison and her husband had been married for almost 50 years. So, we thought the box would save “us” – and in a way it did.
“On our wedding day, my husband Brandon and I received a gift from my Great Aunt Alison”.
