Pueblo, Colorado law enforcement say they have 22-year-old Brittany Humphrey and 27-year-old Joshua Aaron Robertson in custody.
After killing Harvill, Robertson and Humphrey allegedly kidnapped her children – Joslynn Watkins, 2, Brayden Watkins, 3, and Rylee Watkins, 5 – before stealing their dead mother’s green Ford Expedition.
Robertson has a criminal history, and both he and Humphrey are considered armed and risky, authorities say; the pair is believed to have left California. Investigators said Robertson and Humphrey have family connections in several states, including Nebraska, Kansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Humphrey is Harvill’s sister.
They did not say what relationship there was, if any, between Harvill and the suspects or what evidence led to them.
The children were found Wednesday at a motel in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they had been left with a ‘Good Samaritan.’ All three were alive and well.
Humphrey, Robertson and the children are last known to have been in the Gallup area.
Humphrey was found inside a vehicle at the motel, while Robertson was found about two blocks away.
Sheriff’s officials in California said Robertson has an infant with him who is unrelated to the children left in New Mexico.
“Eastbound on the 40 freeway along that route to Arizona, through the New Mexico area”, Mendoza said.
Legal analyst Charles Magill says the couple could face some 55 years to life, if convicted on kidnapping and murder charges.
Authorities were working with the Department of Children and Family Services to arrange for the safe return of the children to California, officials said. The sheriff’s department had earlier said she had suffered head trauma.
The father of Harvill’s children, Kenneth Chad Watkins, killed himself by lying in front of a train previous year, according to the Fresno County Coroner.
