The censor board on Friday told the Bombay high court that some of the scenes recommended for deletion in the Hindi movie “Udta Punjab” were “very vulgar”. The final verdict on the film’s release will be out on June 13.

On Day 2 of the hearing, the court told CBFC, “A multiplex audience is mature enough to watch Udta Punjab”. The petitioner also asked the Censor Board why they could pass films like Gangs of Wasseypur and Delhi Belly, which also have a lot of expletives but not Udta Punjab?

The court was hearing a petition filed by Phantom Films, the producer of Udta Punjab, against an order of the revising committee of the CBFC which suggested 13 changes comprising over 90 cuts in the movie.

Simultaneously, it asked the makers of the film to tone down the expletives and certain vulgar scenes to which the CBFC has objected as these alone can not guarantee the film’s success.

“If the question is of the use of dialect and language, there is a great deal of obscenity being used (in the film)”, he said.

The “Sarbjit” actor added that even his recent film “Do Lafzo Ki Kahani” had gone through the grilling procedure of Censor Board of India which demanded the kiss of 18 seconds in the film to be reduced to 9 seconds.

Board also wants producer-director to remove all reference related with Punjab from the dialogues and songs of the film i.e name of cities including Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Tarn Taran. “But you say “no”, the court had observed.

“The Centre never interferes with the censor board, there was no political influence”, Mr Nihalani has said.

The CBFC has argued that the state should be projected correctly. He said that dont try to kill creativity if people will try to cut creativity they would kill the soul that is all we artist have.

The censor board said there is a dog which has been named as Jackie Chan, which is also objectionable. The film, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in pivotal roles, is scheduled for a June 17 release.
