Cousins, Redskins light up Packers in high-flying 42-24 rout

After Green Bay’s third straight three-and-out to start the game, the Redskins went 55 yards in eight plays.

Correct! Twitter is indeed streaming a number of Thursday night games, but not all of them, and not tonight’s Sunday Night Football matchup. All Cousins did was connect on several deep throws; all he did was throw for 375 yards and three touchdowns.

Soon, Packers’ punter Jake Schum dropped a 58-yard punt down on the Washington six yard line. But given how the Packers wasted his 47-yard catch in the third quarter, which at the time was the Packers’ longest play of the game, what does it matter. The Redskins are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games overall and have covered in six of their last seven games versus an opponent that owns a losing record.

Here’s how it went down. The whole concept reached the point of near absurdity this past week when some younger Redskins players were being asked by the media to analyze the results of games that were played when they were in grade school. On their second drive, however, Washington started to move the ball. Jordan Reed chipped in with some key catches. Tonight we have an NFC clash between the suddenly vulnerable Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins. Those are three games that the Packers normally could have won. The Packers got bailed out later on the series, as a 4th-and-7 attempt was bailed out by an illegal hands to the face penalty on Washington cornerback Bashaud Breeland.

Ahead of the game, the Packers announced outside linebacker Clay Matthews WOULD be active for the game – as would tight end Jared Cook.

Rodgers tried to match Cousins after going three-and-out on Green Bay’s first three possessions.

CATCH OR NOT A CATCH: Packers receiver Jordy Nelson’s 13-yard touchdown catch stood up after video review, despite the ambiguity over whether he held on to the ball. I might be wrong, but I just can’t believe it, and if I can get Rodgers plus a field goal in primetime, I will take it.

“We certainly had a sour taste in our mouths walking away from the game last season”, said Cousins, who was 21 of 30 and also had TD passes to Jamison Crowder and Pierre Garcon. It was touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, field goal there in the second half. Jackson ran a nice 17-yard route for Washington’s first touchdown. They were stuffed on a two-point conversion, leaving the score at that point at the half. On second-and-5 from the 30, he found Garcon behind LaDarius Gunter at the Packers 30 and Garcon covered the rest for a 70-yard score.

As the first quarter came to an end, Packers’ wide receiver Ty Montgomery was able to convert a pair of first downs.
